Rear Brake Shield Replacement

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tyre and wheel assembly. Refer to Tyre and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove the brake disc. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement .

    Caution: Support the brake calliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the calliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the calliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

  5. Remove the wheel speed sensor bolt (1).
  6. Remove the wheel speed sensor (2).

  8. Remove and DISCARD the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts (1).

  10. Remove the wheel bearing/hub assembly (2) and rear brake shield (1) from the rear axle assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the rear brake shield (1) and wheel bearing/hub assembly (2) onto the rear axle assembly.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install NEW wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts (1) and tighten a first pass to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
  4. Warning: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Warning in the Preface section.

  5. Tighten the NEW wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts (1) a final pass to an additional 30 - 45 degrees, using the EN-45059 meter .

  7. Install the wheel speed sensor (2).
  8. Install the wheel speed sensor bolt (1) and tighten to 6 N·m (54 lb in).
  9. Install the brake disc. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement .
  10. Install the tyre and wheel assembly. Refer to Tyre and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
