Circuit/System Description

The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor responds to pressure changes in the inlet manifold. The pressure changes occur based on the engine load. The engine control module (ECM) supplies 5 V to the MAP sensor on the 5 V reference circuit. The ECM provides an ground on the low reference circuit. The MAP sensor provides a signal to the ECM on the MAP sensor signal circuit which is relative to the pressure changes in the manifold. The ECM detects a low signal voltage at a low MAP, such as during an idle or a deceleration. The ECM detects a high signal voltage at a high MAP, such as the ignition is ON, with the engine OFF, or at a wide open throttle (WOT). The MAP sensor is also used to determine the barometric pressure (BARO).

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The ignition is ON or the engine is running.
    • The DTCs run continuously when the above condition is met.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

P0107 00

The ECM detects that the MAP sensor signal is less than 3.5 kPa (0.5 PSI ) for greater than 5 s.

P0108 00

The ECM detects that the MAP sensor signal is greater than 115 kPa (16.7 PSI) for greater than 5 s.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • DTCs P0107 00, and P0108 00 are Type B DTCs.
    • The BARO will not be updated.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTCs P0107 00, and P0108 00 are Type B DTCs.

Diagnostic Aids

If the condition is intermittent, move the related harnesses and connectors, with the engine operating, while monitoring the scan tool parameters for the component. The scan tool parameters will change abruptly if there is a condition with the circuit or a connection.

Special Tools

    • EN 23738-A Mityvac
    • EN 35555 Metal Mityvac

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Verify that DTC P0697 00 is not set.
  2. If P0697 00 is set, refer to DTC P0641, P0651, P0697, or P06A3 .
  3. Engine running, observe the scan tool MAP Sensor parameter. The reading should be between 26-52 kPa (3.8-7.6 PSI).
  4. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the freeze frame/failure records data.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B74 Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor.
  2. Ignition OFF for 1 min, test for less than 5 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal A and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
  4. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the B74 Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor 5 V reference circuit terminal C and ground.
  5. If less than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
If greater than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
  6. Verify the scan tool MAP Sensor parameter is 0.00 V.
  7. If greater than the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal B for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
  8. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the B74 Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor signal circuit terminal B and the 5 V reference circuit terminal C. Verify the scan tool MAP sensor parameter is at 5 V.
  9. If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
  10. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the B74 Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor.

Component Testing

Static Test

The ignition ON engine OFF, MAP Sensor scan tool value should decrease within 4 kPa (0.6 PSI) by the amount of vacuum applied with the EN 23738-A Mityvac orEN 35555 Metal Mityvac . For example, at 92 kPa (13.3 PSI), the MAP Sensor scan tool reading should be between 71-79 kPa (10.29-11.45 PSI) with 17 kPa (2.47 PSI) of vacuum applied to the sensor.
