Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Replacement

Special Tools

CH-558-10 Closure Cap

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution in the Preface section.

Removal Procedure

  1. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
  2. Remove battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement

    Note: Do NOT disconnect engine coolant hoses.

  4. Remove the radiator surge tank clip (2).
  5. Remove the radiator surge tank (1).
  6. Position the radiator surge tank (1) aside.

  8. Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap and install CH-558-10 cap (1) in order to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
  9. Caution: Always connect or disconnect the wiring harness connector from the EBCM/EBTCM with the ignition switch in the OFF position. Failure to observe this precaution could result in damage to the EBCM/EBTCM.

  10. Disconnect the electrical connector from the EBCM/EBTCM.

    Note: Cap the brake pipe fittings to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  12. Remove the 6 brake pipes (1, 2) from the BPMV.

  14. Remove the 2 BPMV bracket bolts (2).
  15. Remove the BPMV bracket assembly (1).

  17. Remove the 3 BPMV bracket bolts (4).
  18. Remove the BPMV (2).
  19. Remove the BPMV insulator (1) from the BPMV bracket (4).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the BPMV insulator (1) to the BPMV bracket (3).
  2. Install the BPMV (2).
  3. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  4. Install the 3 BMPV bracket bolts (4) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the BPMV bracket assembly (1).
  7. Install the 2 BPMV bracket bolts (2) and tighten to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  9. Install the 6 brake pipes (1, 2) to the BPMV and tighten to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).
  10. Connect the electrical connector to the EBCM/EBTCM.

    Caution: When adding fluid to the brake fluid reservoir or to the clutch fluid reservoir, use only DOT-4+ brake fluid from a clean, sealed container. This polyglycol brake fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture. Do not use fluid from an open container that may be contaminated with water. Improper or contaminated fluid could result in damage to the system components.

  12. Remove the CH-558-10 cap (1) and install the brake fluid reservoir cap.

  14. Install the radiator surge tank (1).
  15. Install the radiator surge tank clip (2).
  16. Install battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement
  17. Caution: When adding fluid to the brake fluid reservoir or to the clutch fluid reservoir, use only DOT-4+ brake fluid from a clean, sealed container.   18. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  19. Program the EBCM. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module Programming and Setup .
  20. Calibrate the brake pressure modulator valve pressure sensor. Refer to Brake Pressure Modulator Valve Pressure Sensor Calibration .
  21. Centre the steering angle sensor. Refer to Steering Angle Sensor Centreing .
