Piston, Connecting Rod, and Bearing Removal

  1. Set the crankshaft to TDC of combustion stroke of cylinder 1.
  2. Remove the 4 big-end bearing cap retaining bolts (3) from the cylinder 2 and 3.
  3. Note: Set the big-end bearing caps aside in the order removed.

    Note: The shear surfaces of the connecting rod and the connecting rod bearing cap form a unique fit and must not be swapped or damaged. Do not lay down on the shear surfaces.

  4. Remove the 2 bearing caps (2) from cylinder 2 and 3.
  5. Note: Set aside in the order removed.

  6. Remove the 2 lower big-end bearings (1) from cylinder 2 and 3.

    Note: Set aside in the order removed.

  8. Push the 2 pistons with the connecting rod (1) from cylinder 2 and 3 upwards.
  9. Remove the 2 connecting rod upper bearings (2) from cylinder 2 and 3.
  10. Turn the crankshaft through 180° and set the crankshaft to TDC of combustion stroke of cylinder 2.

  12. Remove the 4 big-end bearing cap bolts (3) from cylinder 1 and 4.
  13. Note: Set the big-end bearing caps aside in the order removed.

    Note: The shear surfaces of the connecting rod and the connecting rod bearing cap form a unique fit and must not be swapped or damaged. Do not lay down on the shear surfaces.

  14. Remove the 2 big-end bearing caps (2) from cylinder 1 and 4.
  15. Note: Set aside in the order removed.

  16. Remove the 2 connecting rod lower bearings (1).

    Note: Note the marking (2) of the connecting rod. Set aside in the order removed.

  18. Push the 2 pistons with connecting rod (1) from cylinder 1 and 4 upwards.
  19. Note: Set aside in the order removed.

  20. Remove the 2 connecting rod upper bearings (2) from cylinder 1 and 4.
