Camshaft Timing Chain Replacement

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the exhaust camshaft. Refer to Exhaust Camshaft Replacement .

  2. 2373213
  3. Remove both retaining bolts (3) from the timing chain guide (2).
  4. Remove the timing chain guide (2).
  5. Remove 1 bolt (3) from the timing chain damper (4).
  6. Remove the timing chain damper (4).
  7. Remove the camshaft timing chain (1)

Installation Procedure

    Note: The marks on the timing chain are asymmetric on the timing chain.

  1. Install the camshaft timing chain (1).

  3. The mark on the inlet camshaft gear (1) must match with the mark on the timing chain (2).

  5. Install the timing chain guide (2).
  6. Apply safety agent to the timing chain damper retaining bolt (3).
  7. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  8. Install the 2 timing chain guide retaining bolts (3) and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  10. The mark on the crankshaft gear (1) must match with the mark on the timing chain (2).

  12. Install the timing chain damper (4).
  13. Apply safety agent to the timing chain damper retaining bolt (3).
  14. Install the timing chain damper bolt (3) and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
  15. Install the exhaust camshaft. Refer to Exhaust Camshaft Replacement .
