Exhaust Manifold Replacement

Note: Make sure the procedure is performed while the engine is cold.

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
2. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement .
3. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connectors.



4. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement .
5. Remove the power steering pump bracket retaining bolt for access for removal of exhaust manifold. Refer to Power Steering Pump Bracket Replacement .
6. Remove the exhaust manifold.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




1. Install the exhaust manifold mounting bolts/nuts.

•	Exhaust manifold stud bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

•	Exhaust manifold mounting nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

2. Install the power steering pump bracket retaining bolt. Refer to Power Steering Pump Bracket Replacement .
3. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement .



4. Connect the HO2S electrical connectors.
5. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
6. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
