Manual Transmission Shift Lever and Selector Lever Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  2. Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .

  3. Remove the gear lever and selector lever cable pin (1).
  4. Remove the gear lever and selector lever cable washer (2).
  5. Disconnect the gear lever and selector lever cable from the shift control lever (4), selector, and gear lever cable bracket (3).
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  7. Remove the gear lever and selector lever cable bracket nut (1) from the underbody.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Remove the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .

  10. Remove the gear lever, selector lever cable U-clip (1) and pin (2).

  11. Disconnect the gear lever and selector lever cable ends (1).
  12. Remove the gear lever and selector lever cable socket (2) from the transmission control lever base.

  13. Remove the transmission control bolts (1) and nuts (2).
  14. Remove the transmission control .

  15. Remove the gear lever and selector lever cable grommet nuts (1).
  16. Remove the gear lever and selector lever cables from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure
  1. Install the gear lever and selector lever cables to the vehicle.

    2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  2. Install the gear lever and selector lever cable grommet nut (1), and tighten to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  3. Connect the gear lever and selector lever cable to the shift control lever (4), selector, and gear lever cable bracket (3).
  4. Install the gear lever and selector lever cable washers (2).
  5. Install the gear lever and selector lever cable pins (1).
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  7. Install the gear lever and selector lever cable bracket nuts (1) to the underbody, and tighten to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
  8. Lower the vehicle.

  9. Install the transmission control .
  10. Connect the gear lever cable end.
  11. Install the gear lever cable U-clip (1).
  12. Install the gear lever cable socket (2) to the transmission control lever base.

  13. Install the transmission control bolts (1) and nuts (2), and tighten to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
  14. Install the selector lever cable socket (3) to the transmission control lever base.
  15. Connect the selector lever cable end.
  16. Install the selector lever cable pin (4).
  17. Install the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  18. Install the battery Refer to Battery Replacement .
  19. Install the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
