Circuit/System Description

B+ is supplied at all times to the heated seat switch from the F5UA 20A fuse located in the underhood fuse block. When the heated seat switch is in the ON position, voltage is applied through the heater element control circuit to the seat cushion heater element for heated seat operation.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON, command the driver and passenger heated seat ON and OFF by pressing and depressing the appropriate heated seat switch. Each heated seat should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
  2. If a heated seat is always ON or always OFF, refer to Heated Seat Malfunction.
  3. Observe the operation of the heated seat indicator while pressing the heated seat switch. The heated seat indicator should turn ON and OFF with each press of the switch.
  4. If the heated seat indicator is always ON or always OFF, refer to Heated Seat Indicator Malfunction

Circuit/System Testing

Heated Seat Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate heated seat switch.
  2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal listed below and ground:
  3. • Driver heated seat switch terminal 2
    • Passenger heated seat switch terminal 2
If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate cushion heated seat element.
  5. Test for less than 1 Ω between the heated seat element terminal 2 and ground:
  6. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  7. Connect the harness connector at the cushion heated seat element.
  8. Connect a 20A fused jumper wire between the heated seat switch terminal 2 and terminal 3.
  9. Ignition ON, verify that the cushion heated seat element is activated.
  10. If the cushion heated seat element is inactive, test the control circuit for a short circuit to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the cushion heated seat element.
  11. Ignition OFF, disconnect the seat heating relay.
  12. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the relay terminal 86 and relay terminal 85.
  13. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  14. Test for less than 1 Ω between the relay terminal 85 and ground.
  15. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
If all circuits test normal, test or replace the heated seat switch.

Heated Seat Indicator Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate heated seat switch.
  2. Test for less than 1 Ω between the heated seat switch terminal 1 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
If all circuits test normal, test or replace the heated seat switch.

Component Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate heated seat switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the heated seat switch terminal 2 and terminal 3 in the open position.
  3. If not the specified value, replace the heated seat switch.
  4. Test for less than 2 Ω between the heated seat switch terminal 2 and terminal 3 in the closed position.
  5. If greater than the specified range, replace the heated seat switch.
