DTC P0710

Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    • Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor

DTC P0710: Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Circuit

Circuit/System Description

When the transmission fluid is cold, the sensor resistance is high. As the transmission fluid warms up, the sensor resistance decreases. This diagnostic monitors the transmission fluid temperature (TFT) sensor circuit. The circuit may be functional but not in the normal operating range. This diagnostic indicates stuck, erratic, intermittent, or skewed values, resulting in reduced system performance.

If the transmission control module (TCM) detects an intermittent voltage or no voltage change in the TFT sensor circuit, then DTC P0710 sets.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • Transmission is in Drive range.
    • Engine speed is greater than 460 RPM.
    • Throttle position is greater than 13 percent.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • The voltage of TFT sensor is greater than 2.4 volts and the vehicle speed is greater than 20 km/h (12 mph).
    • TFT sensor voltage is less than 0.1 V.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P0710 is a Type A DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P0710 is a Type A DTC.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON, observe the DTC information with a scan tool.
  2. Record the Freeze Frame and Failure Records.
  3. Clear the DTCs.
  4. Operate the vehicle under the conditions observed in the Failure Records.
  5. Observe the DTC information with the scan tool. Verify that DTC P0710 does not set.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly wiring harness plug and K71 TCM wiring harness plug.
  2. Test the resistance between the B13 TFT sensor terminal and ground. The resistance should be 2.5 k Ω at 20°C (68° F), and 0.82 k Ω at 50° C (122° F) and 0.325 k Ω at 80° C (176° F).
  3. If not the specified value, test the B13 TFT sensor circuits for an open, short circuit to voltage or short circuit to ground.
If any problem is not found, replace the B13 TFT sensor.
  4. Ignition ON. With the K71 TCM wiring harness plug connected, test for 2-3 V between the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly wiring harness plug terminals for the B13 TFT sensor using a DMM.
  5. If not the specified value, inspect the B13 TFT sensor circuits for an open, short circuit to voltage or short circuit to ground.
If any problem is not found, replace the B13 TFT sensor.
If all circuits and the sensor test normal, replace the K71 TCM.
