Security Indicator Malfunction

Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    • Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

Circuit/System Description

The security indicator is controlled by the IP fuse block based on commands from the immobiliser system or the content theft deterrent system. With the ignition OFF, the security indicator is commanded by the CTD system. With the ignition ON, the security indicator is commanded by the immobilizer system. The security indicator is located in the instrument panel cluster and is supplied B+ at all times. When the immobiliser or content theft deterrent system requests the indicator be commanded ON, the IP fuse block grounds the security indicator control circuit, illuminating the indicator.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the instrument panel cluster (IPC).
  2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 17 and ground.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the IPC. Disconnect the harness connector at the theft deterrent module.
  5. Ignition ON, install a 3A fused jumper wire between the control circuit terminal 19 and ground. Verify the security indicator is illuminated.
  6. If the indicator is not illuminated, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the IPC.
  7. If all circuits test normal replace the theft deterrent module.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
