Circuit/System Description

The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor responds to pressure changes in the inlet manifold. The pressure changes occur based on the engine load. The engine control module (ECM) supplies 5V to the MAP sensor on the 5V reference circuit. The ECM provides an ground on the low reference circuit. The MAP sensor provides a signal to the ECM on the MAP sensor signal circuit which is relative to the pressure changes in the manifold. The ECM detects a low signal voltage at a low MAP, such as during an idle or a deceleration. The ECM detects a high signal voltage at a high MAP, such as the ignition is ON, with the engine OFF, or at a wide open throttle (WOT). The MAP sensor is also used to determine the barometric pressure (BARO).

Conditions for Running the DTC

P0107

    • DTC P0107, P0108, P0112, P0113, P0117, P0118, P0261, P0262, P0264, P0265, P0267, P0268, P0270, P0271, P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0335, P0336, P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354, P0458, P0459, P0502, P0562, P0563, or P2110 is not set.
    • The ignition voltage is greater than 11V.
    • The DTC runs continuously when the above conditions are met.

P0108

    • DTC P0107, P0108, P0112, P0113, P0117, P0118, P0261, P0262, P0264, P0265, P0267, P0268, P0270, P0271, P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0335, P0336, P0351, P0352, P0353, P0354, P0458, P0459, P0502, P0562, P0563, or P2110 is not set.
    • The engine is running for greater than 2s.
    • The DTC runs continuously when the above conditions are met.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

P0107

The ECM detects that the MAP sensor signal voltage is less than 0.1 V.

P0108

The ECM detects that the MAP sensor signal voltage is greater than 4.9 V.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P0107 and P0108 are Type E DTCs.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P0107 and P0108 are Type E DTCs.

Diagnostic Aids

If the condition is intermittent, move the related harnesses and connectors, with the engine running, while monitoring the scan tool parameters for the component. The scan tool parameters will change abruptly if there is a condition with the circuit or a connection.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Engine running, verify the scan tool MAP Sensor parameter is between 26-52 kPa.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B74 manifold absolute pressure (map) sensor.
  2. Ignition OFF for 1 minute, test for less than 5 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 2 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 ECM.
  4. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2V between the 5V reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  5. If less than the specified range, test the 5V reference circuit for a short to ground or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 ECM.
If greater than the specified range, test the 5V reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 ECM.
  6. Verify the scan tool MAP sensor parameter is less than 0.5V.
  7. If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit terminal 3 for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 ECM.
  8. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 3 and the 5V reference circuit terminal 1. Verify the scan tool MAP sensor parameter is greater than 4.5V.
  9. If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 ECM.
  10. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the B74 MAP sensor.

Component Testing

The ignition ON, engine OFF MAP sensor scan tool value should decrease within ± 4 kPa by the amount of vacuum applied with the J 35555 metal mity-vac or equivalent. For example, at 92 kPa, the MAP sensor scan tool reading should be between 71-79 kPa with 5 in Hg (17 kPa) of vacuum applied to the sensor.
