Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn

Note: If the crankshaft position variation learn procedure has not learned, a false misfire could be detected and DTC P0300 may set. If sent here from DTC P0300, proceed with the crankshaft position variation learn procedure.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Monitor the ECM for DTCs with a scan tool. If other DTCs are set, except DTC P0300 or DTC P0315, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle for the applicable DTC that set.
  3. With a scan tool, select the Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn procedure and perform the following:
  4. 3.1. Block the drive wheels.
    3.2. Set the parking brake.
3.3. Place the vehicle's transmission in Park or Neutral.
3.4. Turn the air conditioning (A/C) OFF.
3.5. Cycle the ignition from OFF to ON.
3.6. Apply and hold the brake pedal for the duration of the procedure.
3.7. Start and idle the engine until the engine coolant temperature reaches above 65°C.
3.8. Depress the accelerator pedal to wide open throttle (WOT) for the duration of the learning process. The engine speed will fluctuate between 1500 and 4500 RPM several times due to fuel cut-off.
3.9. Wait 10-20s then release the throttle.

Note: While the learn procedure is in progress, release the throttle immediately when the engine starts to decelerate. The engine control is returned to the operator and the engine responds to throttle position after the learn procedure is complete.

  5. The scan tool displays Learn Status: Learn Successful. If the scan tool indicates Learn Successful, the crankshaft position sensor variation learn procedure is complete. If the scan tool does not indicate Learn Successful, repeat the procedure. If any other DTCs set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle for the applicable DTC that set.
  6. Turn OFF the ignition for 30s after the learn procedure is completed successfully.

The crankshaft position variation learn procedure is also required when the following service procedures have been performed, regardless of whether or not DTC P0315 is set:

    • An engine replacement
    • An ECM replacement
    • A crankshaft replacement
    • A crankshaft position sensor replacement
    • Any engine repairs which disturb the crankshaft to crankshaft position sensor relationship
