The steering angle sensor receives a 12 V reference voltage from the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The EBCM receives high speed controller area network (CAN) message inputs from the steering angle sensor identifying the position and direction of the steering wheel rotation. The EBCM utilises this signal to calculate the driver intended driving direction.
Ignition ON.
The steering angle sensor signal is invalid.
The steering angle sensor is not calibrated.
• | The steering angle sensor signal is out of specified range. |
• | The steering angle sensor offset is out of specified range. |
The steering angle sensor signal is not plausible with the yaw rate sensor signal and lateral acceleration sensor signal.
• | The EBCM disables the stability control for the duration of the ignition cycle. |
• | The traction control/stability control-active indicator turns ON. |
• | A current DTC clears when the diagnostic runs and passes. |
• | The EBCM will turn OFF the indicator in the next ignition cycle. |
The car should not pull in either direction causing the steering wheel to be OFF centre while driving in a straight line on a level surface.

Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Steering Column Position parameter. As the steering wheel is turned, the reading should travel between -550° and 550°.
⇒ | If DTC C0710 is present, perform the Steering Angle Sensor Centreing . |
⇒ | If greater than the specified value, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
⇒ | If less than the specified range, test the 12 V reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). |
⇒ | If the DTC resets, replace the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM). |
