Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement - 1.6L LXT,L2W

Removal Procedure
  1. Open the bonnet.
  2. Remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement .
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

  4. Remove the radiator inlet hose clamp (1).
  5. Remove the radiator inlet hose (2) from the thermostat housing (5).

  6. Remove the engine coolant air bleed hose clamp (3).
  7. Remove the engine coolant air bleed hose (1) from the thermostat housing (4).

  8. Remove the 2 engine coolant thermostat bolts (1).
  9. Remove the engine coolant thermostat (2).
  10. Remove the engine coolant Thermostat seal.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a NEW engine coolant thermostat seal.
  2. Install the engine coolant thermostat (2).

    3. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the 2 engine coolant thermostat bolts (1) and tighten to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  4. Install the engine coolant air bleed hose (1) to the thermostat housing (4).
  5. Install the engine coolant air bleed hose clamp (3).

  6. Install the radiator inlet hose (2) to the thermostat housing (5).
  7. Install the radiator inlet hose clamp (1).
  8. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  9. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement .
  10. Close the bonnet.
