Camshaft Replacement

1. Open the bonnet.
2. Remove the camshaft gears. Refer to Camshaft Gear Replacement .
3. Remove the camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement .




Note: Observe removal sequence 1-5.

4. Loosen the 10 exhaust camshaft bearing cap bolts, working from outside to inside in a spiral in steps of 1/2 up to 1 turn.
5. Remove the 10 camshaft bearing cap bolts.

Note: Mark camshaft bearing caps before removal.

6. Remove the 5 camshaft bearing caps.
7. Remove the exhaust camshaft.



8. Loosen the 10 inlet camshaft bearing cap bolts, working from outside to inside in a spiral in steps of 1/2 up to 1 turn.
9. Remove the 10 inlet camshaft bearing cap bolts.

Note: Mark camshaft bearing caps before removal.

10. Remove the 5 inlet camshaft bearing caps.
11. Remove the inlet camshaft.
12. Remove the camshaft seals. Refer to Camshaft Seal Replacement .

1. Install NEW camshaft seal rings. Refer to Camshaft Seal Replacement .




Note: Coat with MoS 2 lubricating paste. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .

2. Install the inlet camshaft.

Note: Note the identification marking on the camshaft bearing caps.

3. Install the 5 inlet camshaft bearing caps.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

4. Install the 10 inlet camshaft bearing cap bolts and tighten in a spiral from the inside to the outside to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).




Note: Coat with MoS 2 lubricating paste. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .

5. Install the exhaust camshaft.

Note: Observe the identification marking on the camshaft bearing cover.

6. Install the 5 exhaust camshaft bearing caps.
7. Install the 10 exhaust camshaft bearing cap bolts and tighten in a spiral evenly from inside to outside to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
8. Install the camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement .
9. Install the camshaft gears. Refer to Camshaft Gear Replacement .
10. Close the bonnet.
