Catalytic Converter Replacement - 1.6L LXT,L2W

Warning: Refer to Exhaust Service Warning in the Preface section.

Warning: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Warning in the Preface section.

1. Open the bonnet.
2. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → 1.4L LUH and LUJ → 1.6L LDE, LXV, 1.8L 2H0, and LUW → 2.0L Diesel LLW



3. Remove the 3 catalytic converter nuts (1).
4. Remove the catalytic converter upper gasket (3).
5. Raise the vehicle by its full height. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle



6. Remove the 3 catalytic converter lower nuts (5).
7. Remove the catalytic converter bracket bolt (3).
8. Remove the catalytic converter bracket (4).
9. Pull down the exhaust flexible pipe (2) and attach it close to the catalytic converter.
10. Remove the exhaust flex pipe gasket (1).
11. Remove the catalytic converter.

1. Install the catalytic converter.
2. Install the exhaust flex pipe gasket (1).
3. Install the exhaust flexible pipe (2).
4. Install the catalytic converter bracket (4).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

5. Install the catalytic converter bracket bolt (3) and tighten to 50N·m (37 lb ft)..
6. Install the 3 catalytic converter lower nuts (5) and tighten to 50N·m (37 lb ft)..
7. Lower the vehicle by its full height. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle



8. Install the catalytic converter upper gasket (3).
9. Install the 3 catalytic converter nuts (1) and tighten to 40 N·m (30 lb ft)..
10. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → 1.4L LUH and LUJ → 1.6L LDE, LXV, 1.8L 2H0, and LUW → 2.0L Diesel LLW
11. Close the bonnet.
