Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Replacement

Special Tools

For equivalent regional tools, Refer to Special Tools : 1.6L LXT .

1. Open the bonnet.
2. Remove the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .



3. Remove the timing belt idler pulley bolt (2).
4. Remove the timing belt idler pulley (1).



5. Remove the 4 engine mount bracket bolts (2 3).
6. Remove the engine mount bracket (1).



7. Remove the 3 timing belt tensioner bolts (2).
8. Remove the timing belt tensioner (1).




Note: A second technician is required.

9. Install the EN-6347 holding tool (1) and the EN-956-1 extension (2) in the exhaust camshaft sprocket.
10. Loosen the locking bolts (3) from EN-6347 holding tool .

Note: The grooves of EN-6347 holding tool must locate in the camshaft sprocket. Check for correct seating.

11. Tighten the 2 locking bolts (3).
12. Loosen the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt (4) while holding the exhaust camshaft sprocket with EN-6347 holding tool .
13. 13. Remove the EN-6347 holding tool and the EN-956-1 extension from the exhaust camshaft sprocket.
14. Remove the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt (4).
15. Remove the exhaust camshaft sprocket.
16. Repeat the same procedure at the inlet camshaft sprocket for removal.



17. Remove the 4 timing belt rear cover bolts (1, 3).
18. Remove the timing belt rear cover (2).
19. Remove the crankshaft front oil seal. Refer to Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Removal .

1. Install the crankshaft front oil seal. Refer to Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installation .



2. Install the timing belt rear cover (2).
3. Install the 4 timing belt rear cover bolts (1 3) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in)..



4. Install the camshaft sprockets (3).

Note: Turn the sprockets around till them locked in correct position.

5. Install the camshaft sprocket washers (2) and the camshaft sprocket bolts (1) and hand tighten.



6. Install EN-6347 holding tool and EN-956-1 extension .

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Note: A second technician is required.

7. Tighten the bolts to 67.5 N·m (50 lb ft).
8. Remove the EN-6347 holding tool and the EN-956-1 extension from the exhaust camshaft sprocket.



9. Clean the timing belt tensioner threads.
10. Install the timing belt tensioner (1).



11. Install the engine mount bracket (1).
12. Install the 4 engine mount bracket bolts (2 3) and tighten to 65 N·m (48 lb ft).
13. Install the 3 timing belt tensioner bolts (2) and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).



14. Clean the timing belt idler pulley bolt thread inside the cylinder head.
15. Install the timing belt idler pulley (1).
16. Install the timing belt idler pulley bolt (2) and tighten to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
17. Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .
18. Close the bonnet.
