Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) energises the park lamps by applying voltage to the park lamp control circuit. When the park lamp control circuit is energised the park lamps are illuminated.

Conditions for Running the DTC

B2585 01

The parking lights are turned OFF.

B2585 02 or B2585 04

The parking lights are turned ON.

B3867 01

    • The ignition is turned OFF.
    • Headlamp switch in OFF or AUTO position.

B3867 02 or B3867 04

Headlamp switch in park or dipped beam position.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B2585 01 or B3867 01

The BCM detects a short to voltage on the control circuit.

B2585 02 or B3867 02

The BCM detects a short to ground on the control circuit.

B2585 04 or B3867 04

The BCM detects an open control circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The park lamps are inoperative.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The condition for setting the DTC is no longer present.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, perform the appropriate Tail Lamp test. The appropriate park lamp should be ON/OFF.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate inoperative tail lamp.
  2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the C1 Battery.
  3. Test for less than 5 Ω between the appropriate tail lamp ground circuit harness connector listed below and ground.
  4. • E5AA Tail/Brake Lamp - Left harness connector terminal 3
    • E5AB Tail/Brake Lamp - Right harness connector terminal 3
    • M29L Headlamp Levelling Actuator - Left harness connector terminal 1
    • M29R Headlamp Levelling Actuator - Right harness connector terminal 1
If greater than the specified value, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  5. Reconnect the negative terminal to the C1 Battery.
  6. Connect a test lamp between the appropriate tail lamp control circuit harness connector listed below and ground.
  7. • E5AA Tail/Brake Lamp - Left harness connector terminal 2
    • E5AB Tail/Brake Lamp - Right harness connector terminal 2
    • M29L Headlamp Levelling Actuator - Left harness connector terminal 2
    • M29R Headlamp Levelling Actuator - Right harness connector terminal 2
  8. Command the appropriate Tail Lamp test ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
  9. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
  10. If all the circuits test normal, replace the appropriate inoperative tail lamp.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.

    •  Tail Lamp Replacement
    • Control Module References for BCM replacement, setup, and programming
