Circuit/System Description

An intake manifold tuning solenoid valve is used to change the intake manifold plenum configuration. When the intake manifold tuning solenoid valve is open, the intake manifold is configured to one large plenum. When the intake manifold tuning solenoid valve is closed, the intake manifold is configured to two smaller plenums. The intake manifold tuning solenoid valve improves engine performance at low and high engine speeds.

Ignition voltage is supplied directly to the inlet manifold tuning solenoid valve. The engine control module (ECM) controls the inlet manifold tuning solenoid valve by grounding the control circuit via an internal driver switch. The primary function of the driver is to supply ground for the inlet manifold tuning solenoid valve. The ECM can determine if the control circuit is open, shorted to ground, or shorted to a voltage by monitoring the voltage on the control circuit.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The engine is operating.
    • The ignition voltage is between 11-16 V.
    • The DTCs run continuously once the above condition is met.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ECM detects that the commanded state of the driver and the actual state of the control circuit do not match for greater than a cumulative of 10 s.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P2008 00 is a Type B DTCs.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P2008 00 is a Type B DTCs.

Diagnostic Aids

If the condition is intermittent, move the related harnesses and connectors, with the engine idling, while monitoring the scan tool circuit test status parameters for the component. A circuit test status parameter will change from OK or Not Run to Fault if there is a condition with the circuit or a connection.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON, command the Intake Manifold Tuning Control Valve Open and Closed with a scan tool. The inlet manifold tuning solenoid valve vacuum actuator should move to the closed position.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that are captured in the freeze frame/failure records data.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the Q22 Intake Manifold Tuning Solenoid Valve.
  2. Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the ignition voltage circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the ignition voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. Replace the F47 fuse, if necessary.
  4. Ignition OFF, connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 2 and the ignition voltage circuit terminal 1.
  5. Ignition ON, command the Inlet Manifold Tuning Control Valve solenoid Open and Closed with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON when the solenoid is commanded Closed, and OFF when the solenoid is commanded Open.
  6. If the test lamp is always ON, test for a short to ground on the K20 Engine Control Module pin 15 X1 control circuit. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
If the test lamp is always OFF, test for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance on the K20 Engine Control Module pin 15 X1 control circuit. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
  7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the Q22 Intake Manifold Tuning Solenoid Valve.

Repair Instructions
