Bluetooth Communication Automatic Radio Mute Mode Malfunction -- Holden Genuine Accessory

Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using the diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    • Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category Circuit/System Description.

Circuit/System Description

The Bluetooth Module is a mobile device that is powered by battery positive voltage and ground from a break-out harness connected to the radio connector; and Ignition I voltage from a mini fuse adaptor connected to the terminal connection of fuse F6DA at the instrument cluster fuse box. It allows a cordless link between a mobile telephone and the vehicle Bluetooth communication system. The Bluetooth Module is not connected to the GMLAN system. It communicates with the mobile telephone via low-power radio waves. Due to the low power of the signal, about 1 milliwatt, a mobile telephone must be within 10 metres (32 feet) of the vehicle Bluetooth module to connect and operate.

When making or receiving a call, the vehicle audio system is automatically set to MUTE mode. The voice of the caller is heard through the speakers of the audio systems.

Circuit/System Verification

Note: Perform this diagnostic if the person called cannot be clearly heard or the Radio can still be heard when making or receiving a call.

Ignition ON, press the Bluetooth switch and make a phone call. Verify that person called cannot be clearly heard or the radio can still be heard when making or receiving a call.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Disconnect the X1 connector of the Radio.
  2. Ignition ON, test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal 4 X1 and ground.
  3. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the Bluetooth module.
  4. Ignition ON, slowly press the Bluetooth switch 3 times, immediately after pressing the Bluetooth switch, test for 5.5-6.0 kΩ between the signal circuit terminal 15 and ground. The test value should stay within this range for about two seconds only.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the Bluetooth module.

Repair Instructions

For component removal and installation refer to the Accessory Fitting Instructions. Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
