Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Diagnosis

Circuit/System Description

Ignition voltage is supplied to the instrument cluster. The engine control module (ECM) turns the MIL ON by grounding the MIL control circuit.

Circuit/System Verification
  1. Ignition ON, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Verify that DTCs U0073 00, U0100 00, or U0155 00 are not set.
    2. ⇒If any of the DTCs are set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle .
  2. Ignition ON, the MIL should turn ON and OFF when commanded with a scan tool.

Circuit/System Testing

Ignition ON, verify that the P16 Instrument Cluster warning indicators are illuminated.

⇒If the P16 Instrument Cluster warning indicators are not illuminated, test the P16 Instrument Cluster ignition circuit terminal 31 for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the ignition circuit fuse is open, replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.
