DTC P059F

Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    • Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor

DTC P059F 00: Active Grille Air Shutter Performance

Circuit/System Description

The front spoiler air inlet actuator closes lamellas at the front bumper to enhance vehicle aerodynamics in driving situations where cooling and A/C loads are relatively low and high levels of front end airflow are not required. If high levels of airflow are required the front spoiler air inlet actuator opens the lamellas. The control signal from the fuel pump control module, ignition and ground circuits enable the front spoiler air inlet actuator to operate. If the conditions for opening the lamellas are reached the fuel pump control module supplies B+ to the control circuit and the front spoiler air inlet actuator opens the lamellas.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • Engine running.
    • The ignition voltage is greater than 10 V.
    • The DTC runs continuously when the above conditions are met.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

P059F 00

The fuel pump control module detects a short to voltage, short to ground or an open/high resistance at the front spoiler air inlet actuator control circuit.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P059F 00 is an A type DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P059F 00 is an A type DTC.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, command the Active Grille Air Shutter Position 5-95% with a scan tool. Observe the front spoiler air inlet actuator opens and closes the lamellas at the front bumper.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the M96 Active Grille Air Shutter Actuator.
  2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, test for greater than 11 V between the ignition circuit terminal 3 and ground.
  5. If less than the specified range, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  6. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 1 and the ground circuit terminal 2.
  7. Command the Active Grille Air Shutter Position 5-95% with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
  8. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K27 Fuel Pump Control Module.
If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K27 Fuel Pump Control Module.
  9. If all circuits test normal, replace the M96 Active Grille Air Shutter Actuator.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
