1. Ajar Indicator Malfunction

Circuit/System Description

The keyless entry control module receives a discrete input from the driver and passenger door open switch signal circuits. The driver window motor receives a discrete input from the driver door ajar switch signal circuit. The passenger window switch receives a discrete input from the passenger door ajar switch signal circuit.. The door open switches and the door ajar switches are integral to each door catch assembly. When a door is opened, the normally open door open and door ajar switch closes. With the door open switch closed, ground is provided to the door open switch signal circuit. The window switches communicate the door ajar data via serial data communication with the keyless entry control module.

Conditions for Running the DTC

Battery voltage is between 9-16 V.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B297B 5A

The keyless entry control module detects a disparity between the driver door ajar signal and the driver door open signal when the door is open.

B297C 5A

The keyless entry control module detects a disparity between the passenger door ajar signal and the passenger door open signal when the door is open.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The keyless entry control module ignores inputs from the exterior door handle switches.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • This DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
    • When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
    • A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool keyless entry control module Driver Door Open Switch parameter while opening and closing the driver door. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive.
  2. Observe the scan tool keyless entry control module Passenger Door Open Switch parameter while opening and closing the front passenger door. The parameter should change between Active and Inactive.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the malfunctioning door latch assembly.
  2. Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal listed below and ground.
  3. •  A23D Door Catch Assembly - Driver terminal 8
    •  A23P Door Catch Assembly - Passenger terminal 3
If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the following scan tool parameter is Inactive.
  5. •  Driver Door: Driver Door Open Switch
    •  Passenger Door: Passenger Door Open Switch
If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 Keyless Entry Control Module.
  6. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the following signal circuit terminal and ground. Verify the scan tool Driver Door Open Switch or Passenger Door Open Switch parameter is Active.
  7. •  A23D Door Catch Assembly - Driver terminal 7
    •  A23P Door Catch Assembly - Passenger terminal 2
If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 Keyless Entry Control Module.
  8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the door latch.

Component Testing

Static Test

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door latch assembly.
  2. With the switch in the open position (door closed), test for infinite resistance between the circuit terminals listed below:
  3. • Driver door latch signal terminal 7 and ground terminal 8
    • Driver door catch signal terminal 2 and ground terminal 3
If not the specified value, replace the door catch assembly.
  4. With the switch in the closed position (door open), test for less than 5 Ω between the circuit terminals listed below:
  5. • Driver door latch signal terminal 7 and ground terminal 8
    • Driver door catch signal terminal 2 and ground terminal 3
If greater than the specified range, replace the door catch assembly.
