Inspect the suspension.

Is the suspension worn?

Inspect the power steering gear for proper installation. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement : Hydraulic Power Steering  → Electronic Power Steering .

Is the steering gear installation correct?

Go to Step 5

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
2. Inspect the outer track rods for proper installation.

Are the outer track rods mounted properly?

Go to Step 6

Inspect the outer track rods for damage.

Are the outer track rods worn or binding?

Go to Step 11

Go to Step 7

Inspect the intermediate shaft.

Is the intermediate shaft properly mounted?

Go to Step 8

Inspect the intermediate shaft.

Is the intermediate shaft worn?

Go to Step 14

1. Disconnect the intermediate shaft from the column.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .

Is the condition present in the column?

Go to Noise in Steering Column

Install the outer track rods correctly. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Track rod Replacement .

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 17

Replace the outer track rods. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Track rod Replacement .

Install the intermediate shaft correctly. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .

Replace the worn suspension components.
