DTC Descriptor

DTC P0660 00: Intake Manifold Tuning Control Valve Control Circuit

Circuit/System Description

Ignition voltage is supplied directly to the intake manifold tuning solenoid valve. The engine control module (ECM) controls the intake manifold tuning solenoid valve by grounding the control circuit via an internal driver switch. The primary function of the driver is to supply ground for the intake manifold tuning solenoid valve. The ECM can determine if the control circuit is open, shorted to ground, or shorted to a voltage by monitoring the voltage on the control circuit.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The engine is operating.
    • The ignition voltage is between 7-16 V.
    • DTC P0660 00 runs continuously once the above condition is met.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ECM detects that the commanded state of the driver and the actual state of the control circuit do not match for greater than 10 s.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P0660 00 is a Type C DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P0660 00 is a Type C DTC.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Engine idling, command the intake manifold tuning solenoid valve ON with a scan tool. The intake manifold tuning solenoid valve vacuum actuator should move to the closed position.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the freeze frame/failure records data.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector of the Q22 Intake Manifold Tuning Solenoid Valve.
  2. Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the ignition voltage circuit terminal 2 and ground.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, repair the ignition voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. Replace the F47 fuse, if necessary.
  4. Ignition OFF, connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 1 and the ignition voltage circuit terminal 2.
  5. Ignition ON, command the Intake Manifold Tuning Control Valve solenoid Open and Closed with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON when the solenoid is commanded Closed, and OFF when the solenoid is commanded Open.
  6. If the test lamp is always ON, test for a short to ground on the K20 Engine Control Module terminal 46 X2 control circuit. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
    If the test lamp is always OFF, test for a short to voltage or an open circuit/high resistance on the K20 Engine Control Module terminal 46 X2 control circuit. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
  7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the Q22 Intake Manifold Tuning Solenoid Valve.

Repair Instructions
