DTC P0011 - LNP or LNQ

Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    • Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor

DTC P0011 00: Camshaft Position System Performance

Circuit/System Description

The camshaft position sensor correlates the crankshaft to camshaft position so that the engine control module (ECM) can determine which cylinder is ready to be fuelled by an injector. As the camshaft rotates, the reluctor wheel interrupts a magnetic field produced by a magnet within the sensor and sends a signal to the ECM through the signal circuit. The camshaft position sensor circuits are directly connected to the ECM. The camshaft position sensor also determines which cylinder is misfiring. The camshaft position sensor circuits consist of the following:

    • 5 V reference
    • A low reference
    • A camshaft position sensor signal

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The ignition is ON or the engine is running.
    • The ignition voltage is less than 16 V.
    • DTCs P0336 00, P0339 00, or P0344 00 are not set.
    • This DTC runs continuously once the above conditions are met.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ECM detects an incorrect camshaft position sensor signal for 2 s.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTC P0011 00 is a Type C DTCs.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P0011 00 is a Type C DTCs.

Diagnostic Aids

The following conditions can also set the DTC:

    • A short to ground in a camshaft position solenoid valve control circuit can cause this DTC to set.
    • Inspect the engine for any recent engine mechanical repairs. An incorrectly installed camshaft, camshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, or timing chain can cause this DTC to set.
    • Crankshaft end play out of the range can cause this DTC to set.
    • A crankshaft reluctor wheel that has moved in relationship to top dead centre (TDC) can cause this DTC to set.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Engine running, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. DTC P0011 00 should not set.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the freeze frame/failure records data.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Inspect the engine or review the service history of the vehicle for any recent repairs involving the timing chain, B23 Camshaft Position Sensor or B26 Crankshaft Position Sensor.
  2. Test for the following conditions:
  3. • The correct installation of the B23 Camshaft Position Sensor
    • The correct installation of the B26 Crankshaft Position Sensor
    • A timing chain tensioner condition
    • A timing chain that jumped teeth
    • A crankshaft or camshaft reluctor wheel that has moved in relationship to top dead centre (TDC) on the crankshaft
  4. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC to verify the DTC does not reset. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that are captured in the freeze fame/failure records data list.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
