Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  4. Remove the front bumper fascia opening lower cover. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Opening Lower Cover Replacement .
  5. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.
  6. Remove the compressor hose assembly from the compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement and Air Conditioning Evaporator Hose Assembly Replacement .

Air Conditioning Compressor Bolt (Qty: 4)

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
22 N·m (16 lb ft)

Air Conditioning Compressor Assembly

Procedure

  1. Use a low viscosity, polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil. Use of the incorrect oil can result in compressor failure.
  2. When replacing the A/C compressor, balance the compressor oil. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing .
  3. Using GE 39400-A leak detector test A/C compressor fittings.
