Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement

Special Tools

    • CH-46560-04 Thread Rod (Component of DT-50178)
    • CH-46560-05 Hex Nut (Component of DT-50178)
    • DT-47540 Wheel Hub Spacer (Hub Removal & Installation Adaptor, Component of DT-50178)
    • DT-47541 Wheel Bearing Spacer (Wheel Bearing Removal Adaptor, Component of DT-50178)
    • DT-47542 Wheel Bearing Spacer (Hub & Bearing Installation Plate, Component of DT-50178)
    • DT-47543 Wheel Bearing Spacer (Wheel Bearing Installation Adaptor, Component of DT-50178)
    • DT-50178 Hub/Bearing Remover/Installer Kit
    • DT-50178-01 Bridge Support (Component of DT-50178)

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the front wheel and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove the brake disc. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement .
  4. Remove the steering knuckle assembly. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement .
  5. Use a vice in order to hold the steering knuckle assembly.

  7. Using the DT-50178-01 bridge support, CH-46560-04 thread rod, CH-46560-05 hex nut, and DT-47540 wheel hub spacer, remove the wheel hub from the steering knuckle.

  9. Remove the wheel bearing retaining ring from the steering knuckle.

  11. Using the DT-50178-01 bridge support, CH-46560-04 thread rod, CH-46560-05 hex nut, and DT-47541 wheel bearing spacer, remove the wheel bearing from the steering knuckle.
  12. Discard the wheel bearing.

  13. Clean the bore of the steering knuckle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Use a vice in order to hold the steering knuckle.
  2. Using the DT-47542 wheel bearing spacer, CH-46560-04 thread rod, CH-46560-05 hex nut, and DT-47543 wheel bearing spacer, install the NEW wheel bearing to the steering knuckle.

  4. Install the wheel bearing retaining ring to the steering knuckle.

  6. Using the DT-47542 wheel bearing spacer, CH-46560-04 thread rod, CH-46560-05 hex nut, and DT-47540 wheel hub spacer, install the wheel hub to the steering knuckle.
  7. Verify that the wheel hub rotates smoothly.
  8. Install the steering knuckle assembly. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement .
  9. Install the brake disc. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement .
  10. Install the front wheel and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
