Strut Assembly Removal and Installation

CH-49375 Wrench
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .
Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Detach the brake hose grommet (1) from the strut bracket.
- Detach the wheel speed sensor wiring harness grommet (2) from the strut bracket, if equipped with ABS.
- Remove the stabilizer shaft link to strut retaining nut (1) and separate the stabilizer link from the strut.
- Remove the steering knuckle to strut bolts and nuts (1).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the plenum lower panel. Refer to Plenum Lower Panel Replacement .
- Remove the strut cover (1).
- Using the CH-49375 wrench, remove the strut upper mounting nut (2).
- Remove the strut mounting plate (3).
- Separate the front strut from the steering knuckle.
- Remove the front strut assembly from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the front strut assembly to the vehicle.
- Install the strut mounting plate (3).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Using the CH-49375 wrench, install the strut upper mounting nut (2) and tighten to 65 N·m (48 lb ft).
- Install the strut cover (1).
- Install the plenum lower panel. Refer to Plenum Lower Panel Replacement .
Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting and Jacking Caution in the Preface section.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Install the front strut to the steering knuckle.
- Install the steering knuckle to strut retaining bolts and nuts (1) and tighten to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).
- Install the stabilizer link to the strut and install the stabilizer shaft link to strut retaining nut (1) and tighten to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).
- Install the wheel speed sensor wiring harness grommet (2) to the strut bracket, if equipped with ABS.
- Install the brake hose grommet (1) to the strut bracket.
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Check the front wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications .
