Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement

DT-50186 Wheel Hub Holding Tool
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .
Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
- Remove the rear wheel speed sensor, if equipped with ABS. Refer to Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement .
- Remove the wheel bearing/hub and spindle assembly to rear axle retaining nuts (1).
- Remove the wheel bearing/hub and spindle assembly (1) from the rear axle assembly and the brake backing plate.
- Install the wheel bearing/hub and spindle assembly to the vice.
- Remove the wheel bearing cap (1).
- Using the DT-50186 holding tool, remove the wheel hub spindle nut (2).
- Remove the wheel hub/bearing assembly (3) from the wheel hub spindle (4).
- Remove the wheel hub spindle (4) from the vice.
Installation Procedure
- Install the wheel hub spindle (4) to the vice.
- Install the wheel hub/bearing assembly (3) to the wheel hub spindle (4).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Using the DT-50186 holding tool, install the wheel hub spindle nut (2) and tighten to 190 N·m (140 lb ft).
- Install the wheel bearing cap (1) to the wheel hub/bearing and spindle assembly.
- Install the wheel bearing/hub and spindle assembly (1) to the brake backing plate and the rear axle assembly.
- Install the wheel bearing/hub and spindle assembly to rear axle retaining nuts (1). Tighten the nuts evenly, in a cross-pattern to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).
- Install the rear wheel speed sensor, if equipped with ABS. Refer to Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement .
- Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Lower the vehicle.
