DTC P0740

Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    • Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor

DTC P0740 : Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Enable Solenoid Control Circuit

Circuit/System Description

The transmission control module (TCM) sends an output duty cycle signal which activates the TCC solenoid. This signal is used to control torque converter lock-up piston inside the torque converter.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

When the transmission control module (TCM) sends an output duty cycle signal to activate the TCC solenoid, but the return signal is received as OFF by the monitoring signal.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • DTC P0740 is a Type B DTC.
    • TCC solenoid is turned OFF.
    • Lock-up control is inhibited.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P0740 is a Type B DTC.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly wiring harness plug and K71 TCM wiring harness plug.
  2. Test for 13 Ω at 20°C (68°F) between the Q39B TCC Solenoid Valve circuit terminal 4 and ground.
  3. If not the specified value, test for the circuit for open circuit or short circuit to ground.
If the circuit is normal, replace the Q39B TCC Solenoid Valve.
  4. Test for continuity between the Q39B TCC Solenoid Valve circuit terminal 4 and K71 TCM wiring harness plug terminal 3 X1.
  5. If the continuity is not normal, repair or replace the circuit.
  6. If the circuits test normal, replace the K71 TCM.
