DTC P0741

Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    • Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor

DTC P0741 : Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) System-Stuck Off

Circuit/System Description

This problem occurs when the lock-up clutch will not engage while all the electronic signals concerned with lock up control (the input speed sensor, engine speed, and the TCC solenoid) are normal.

Therefore, it is necessary to check the lock-up clutch in the torque converter and check inside the control valve.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • Lock-up duty cycle is 95 percent.
    • The transaxle is in the Drive position.
    • Engine speed is greater than 460 RPM.
    • Throttle position is greater than 13 percent.
    • The temperature of the TFT sensor is between 20°C (68°F) and 100°C (212°F).

Conditions for Setting the DTC

Absolute value for engine speed minus input speed is greater than 40 rpm plus vehicle speed divided by 2.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • DTC P0741 is a Type B DTC.
    • Lock-up control is inhibited.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P0741 is a Type B DTC.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly wiring harness plug and K71 TCM wiring harness plug.
  2. Test for 13 Ω at 20°C (68°F) between the Q39B TCC Solenoid Valve circuit terminal 4 and ground.
  3. If not the specified value, test for the circuit for open circuit or short circuit to ground.
If the circuit is normal, replace the Q39B TCC Solenoid Valve.
  4. Test for continuity between the Q39B TCC Solenoid Valve harness circuit terminal 4 and K71 TCM wiring harness plug terminal 3.
  5. If the continuity is not normal, repair or replace the circuit.
  6. If the circuits test normal, replace the K71 TCM.
  7. Inspect for the control valve body.
  8. If there is any malfunction, replace the control valve body.
  9. If all circuits and components test normal, replace the torque converter.
