Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement

Special Tools

DT-50189 Pin Punch

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

Removal Procedure
  1. Set the park brake and place the transmission manual gear lever in the neutral position.
  2. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement .
  3. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  4. Remove the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement .
  5. Remove the radiator outlet hose. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement .

  6. Disconnect the transmission range selector lever cable terminal (1) from the transmission range selector lever.
  7. Press the retainer clip tabs inward in order to release the transmission range selector lever cable (2) from the cable bracket.

  8. Remove the transmission range selector lever pin (1) using DT-50189 punch.
  9. Remove the transmission range selector lever (2).

  10. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch (PNP) electrical connector (1).
  11. Remove the PNP switch bolt (2).
  12. Remove the PNP switch (3).

Installation Procedure

  1. Make sure that the transmission manual gear lever is in the neutral position.
  2. Install the PNP switch to the manual shaft, and temporarily tighten the PNP switch bolts.
  3. Install the range selector lever (2) in the manual shaft, and install the transmission range selector lever pin (1).

  4. Move the range selector lever (2) to shift into the neutral position.
  5. Insert a 3 mm (0.11 in) pin (drill bit) (1) in the location holes of the PNP switch (3) and the range selector lever.

    6. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  6. Install the PNP switch bolts (2) and tighten to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
  7. Connect the PNP electrical connector (1) to the PNP switch (3).

  8. Install the transmission range selector lever cable (2) to the cable bracket.
  9. Connect the transmission range selector lever cable terminal (1) to the transmission range selector lever.
  10. Check the range selector lever cable adjustment. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment .
  11. Install the radiator outlet hose. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement .
  12. Install the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement .
  13. Install air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  14. Install the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement .
