Circuit | Short to Ground | Open/High Resistance | Short to Voltage | Signal Performance |
---|---|---|---|---|
Ignition | P0650 | P0650 | - | - |
Control | P0650/MIL ON | P0650 | P0650 | - |
The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is located on the instrument panel cluster. Ignition voltage is supplied directly to the MIL. The engine control module (ECM) turns the MIL ON by grounding the MIL control circuit. There should be a steady MIL with the ignition ON and the engine OFF.
The MIL informs the driver that an emission system fault has occurred and that the engine control system requires service. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the MIL control circuit for conditions that are incorrect for the commanded states of the MIL.
• | The ignition is ON. |
• | The DTC runs continuously when the above conditions are met. |
• | DTC P0562 or P0563 is not set. |
• | The engine is running. |
• | The ignition voltage is between 11-16V. |
• | The DTC runs continuously when the above conditions are met. |
The ECM detects a short circuit to voltage, a short circuit to ground, or an open/high resistance on the MIL control circuit.
DTC P0650 is a Type E DTC.
DTC P0650 is a Type E DTC.

⇒ | If the P16 Instrument Cluster indicators are not illuminated, refer to Symptoms - Displays and Gauges |
⇒ | If the MIL illuminates, test the MIL control circuit for a short circuit to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the P16 Instrument Cluster. |

• | MIL control circuit terminal 92 (FX3) |
⇒ | If the MIL does not illuminate, test the MIL control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the bulb/P16 Instrument Cluster. |
