Circuit/System Description

Battery voltage is supplied at all times to the interior lights from the F1DA located in the I/P fuse block. The interior light can be turned ON in 2 different ways; when any door is opened and interior light switch. Inputs from the interior light switch and the door ajar switches are monitored by the I/P fuse block. When a door ajar switch is closed, and the interior light switch is turned to the DOOR position, the I/P fuse block supplies the ground for the courtesy lamps.

Circuit/System Verification

Observe the driver information centre while opening and closing each vehicle door and the liftgate. The driver information centre should display the door ajar/liftgate ajar message only when the door/liftgate is open.

If the driver information centre displays the door ajar/tailgate ajar message when a door or the tailgate is closed, refer to Door Ajar Indicator Malfunction .
If the door ajar/tailgate is functioning normally, refer to Interior Light Circuit Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

Dome Lamp Switch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the wiring harness plug at the E36AH Interior light.
  2. Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 4 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the voltage supply circuit terminal 2 and the control circuit terminal 3.
  5. Open and Close any door. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the door states.
  6. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the X51A I/P Fuse Block.
If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short circuit to voltage or open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the X51A I/P Fuse Block.
  7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the E36AH Interior light.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
