Piston, Connecting Rod, and Bearing Installation

• | EN-48249 Piston Ring Compressor |
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .
- Turn the piston rings before the installation to a position (A, B, C) as in the graphic shown.
- The markings (1) on piston head must point to the timing side.
- Lubricate the piston rings, piston (2), inner cylinder bore surface and EN-48249 compressor (1) with clean engine oil.
- Install the 4 pistons with 4 connecting rods (1) push down into the engine block.
- Install the connecting rod bearings (4) to the connecting rod bearing caps (2).
Note: Take extreme care to prevent any scratches or damages to the connecting rod bearings.
- Install the 8 connecting rod bearings (4).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
Caution: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Install the 8 NEW connecting rod bearing cap bolts (3) and tighten in two passes:
7.1. | In first pass tighten to 25 N·m (19 lb ft) |
7.2. | In second pass tighten to 90 ° using the EN-45059 meter . |
