- Clean the sealing surfaces.
Note: Ensure that the cylinder head and the cylinder block sealing surfaces are clear of oil, grease and old gasket material.
- Inspect the flatness of cylinder head and cylinder block sealing surfaces.
- Install EN-301 measurement bridge (2) in compound with GE-571-B dial (1).
Note: The largest measured piston overhang value is determining for the choice of the cylinder head gasket.
- Measure the piston overhang and compare with the identification on the cylinder head gasket (1).
4.1. | Piston overhang 0.230 mm - 0.296 mm (0.0091 in - 0.0117 in), choose cylinder head gasket with identification A. |
4.2. | Piston overhang 0.297 mm - 0.362 mm (0.0117 in - 0.0142 in), choose cylinder head gasket with identification B. |
4.3. | Piston overhang 0.363 mm - 0.429 mm (0.0143 in - 0.0169 in), choose cylinder head gasket with identification C. |
Note: Mind the guide sleeves.
- Install a NEW cylinder head gasket (3).
- Install the cylinder head (2).
- Install 10 NEW cylinder head bolts (1).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
Caution: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Tighten the 10 cylinder head bolts in a sequence as shown in three passes:
8.1. | First pass in sequence to 50 N·m (37 lb ft). |
8.2. | Second pass in sequence to an additional 90°, using the EN-470-B wrench . |
8.3. | Third pass in sequence to an additional 90°, using the EN-470-B wrench . |
