Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement

Component Name

Warning: In order to avoid being burned, do not service the exhaust system while it is still hot. Service the system when it is cool.

Caution: The oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove when the engine temperature is below 48°C (120°F). Excessive force may damage threads in the exhaust manifold or the exhaust pipe.

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Open the bonnet.
  2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  4. If equipped, remove the engine shield. Refer to Engine Shield Replacement
  5. If equipped, open the front compartment service opening.

Crankshaft Position Sensor Wiring Harness Plug

Procedure

Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor wiring harness plug.

Crankshaft Position Sensor Bolt

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
10 N·m (89 lb in)

Crankshaft Position Sensor

Procedure

After the replacement of the crankshaft position sensor, use a scan tool to perform the appropriate reset function. Refer to Engine Control Module Programming and Setup .

Crankshaft Position Sensor Seal Ring

Procedure

Install a NEW crankshaft position sensor seal ring.
