Sump Cleaning and Inspection

1. Clean the oil sump mating surface (1).
2. Clean the lower oil sump. Remove all the sludge and the oil deposits.
3. Remove the sump drain plug (3) and the sump drain plug seal .
4. Inspect the thread of the oil sump drain plug and of the oil sump thread (2).
5. Inspect the oil sump holes (4) for cracking.
6. Repair or replace the lower oil sump as necessary.

1. Disassemble the upper oil sump. Refer to Upper Oil Sump Disassemble .



2. Clean the oil sump mating surface (1).
3. Clean the upper oil sump. Remove all the sludge and the oil deposits.
4. Inspect the oil sump for cracking near the vents (2).
5. Inspect the oil sump holes (3) for cracking.
6. Inspect the sump for cracking near the pan rail and the transmission mounting points (4).
7. Assemble the upper oil sump. Refer to Upper Oil Sump Assemble .
