Circuit/System Description

The camshaft position actuator solenoid valve - inlet and camshaft position actuator solenoid valve - exhaust are attached to each camshaft and are operated hydraulically in order to change the angle of the camshaft relative to crankshaft position. The camshaft position actuator solenoid valve - inlet and camshaft position actuator solenoid valve - exhaust are controlled by the engine control module (ECM). The ECM sends a pulse width modulated signal to a camshaft position actuator solenoid valve - inlet and camshaft position actuator solenoid valve - exhaust. The camshaft position actuator solenoid valve - inlet and camshaft position actuator solenoid valve - exhaust can change the camshaft angle by a maximum of 20°. The ECM increases the pulse width to accomplish the desired camshaft operation.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The engine speed is between 736-6016 RPM.
    • The engine oil temperature is between -10 to +130°C (14-266°F).
    • The commanded camshaft position is stable.
    • The battery voltage is between 10-16 V
    •  DTCs P000A 00, P000B 00, P0010 00, P0013 00, P0014 00, P0016 00, P0017 00, P0335 00, P0336 00, P0340 00, P0341 00, P0365 00, P0366 00, P2088 00, P2089 00, P2090 00, P2091 00 are not set.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

Circuit/System Verification

Note: The supply of clean pressurised engine oil to the Q6E Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Exhaust and Q6F Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Inlet is essential to actuator performance.

  1. Observe the engine oil level. The engine oil level should be within operating range. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities .
  2. Ensure that the vehicle has the correct type of engine oil and that the oil is not old, burnt or contains additives.
  3. If the vehicle has the incorrect type of engine oil, or the oil is old, burnt, or contains additives then change the oil and filter.
  4. Test the engine oil pressure for correct operation. Refer to Oil Pressure Diagnosis and Testing .
  5. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the freeze frame/failure records data.

Circuit/System Testing

Note: You must complete the circuit/system verification before proceeding with circuit/system testing

  1. Inspect the engine timing components. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement : 1.6L LDE, LXV, 1.8L 2H0, LUW and LFH .
  2. If incorrect installation, wear or damage of a component is diagnosed, repair or replace the affected component and verify the DTC does not reset.
  3. If the DTC resets, replace the Q6E Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Exhaust or Q6F Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Inlet and verify the DTC does not reset.
  4. If the DTC resets, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.

Repair Instructions
