Circuit/System Description

The turbocharger vane position sensor is mounted on the turbo charger vacuum actuator. A 5 V reference voltage and a low reference is supplied to the turbocharger vane position sensor. The sensor provides a signal to the engine control module (ECM) with the actual turbocharger control rod position.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is ON or engine is running.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The ECM detects a short to ground or a short to voltage for more than 1 s.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

DTCs P2564 and P2565 are Type A DTCs.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTCs P2564 and P2565 are Type A DTCs.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Turbocharger Vane Position Sensor. The reading should be between 0.5-4.5 V and change with engine speed.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B112 Turbocharger Vane Position Sensor.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 5 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
  4. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminal 2 and ground.
  5. If less than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
    If greater than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
  6. Verify the scan tool Turbocharger Vane Position Sensor is less than 0.3 V.
  7. If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit terminal 3 for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
  8. Install a 3 A fused bridging wire between the signal circuit terminal 3 and the 5 V reference circuit terminal 2. Verify the scan tool Turbocharger Vane Position Sensor is greater than 4.8 V.
  9. If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
  10. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the B112 Turbocharger Vane Position Sensor.
