Upper Sump Replacement

Special Tools

EN-50435 Guide Pin

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the oil level indicator.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the front compartment insulator. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement .
  4. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  5. Remove the lower sump. Refer to Lower Sump Replacement .
  6. Remove the exhaust front pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → LDE, LLU, LXT, LXV, L2W, 2H0, LFH .
  7. Remove the front wheel drive intermediate shaft bracket. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Bracket Replacement .

  9. Disconnect the engine oil level indicator wiring harness plug (1) from the engine oil level indicator (2).

  11. For manual transmission, remove the 3 oil pan to transmission bolts (1).

  13. For automatic transmission, remove the 2 oil pan to transmission bolts (1).

  15. Remove 14 upper sump retaining bolts (2, 3).
  16. Note: Carefully detach from engine block using suitable tool. Do not damage sealing surfaces.

  17. Remove the sump (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove any old thread sealant and gasket material with a suitable tool.
  2. Clean the upper oil pan and upper oil pan components with solvent.
  3. Note: Ensure that the sealing surface is clear of oil, grease and old sealing material.

  4. Clean out debris from the bolt holes.
  5. Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses and Compressed Air Warning in the Preface section.

  6. Dry the upper oil pan and upper oil pan components with compressed air.
  7. Note: The complete installation procedure of the upper oil pan should be done in 10 minutes.

    Note: DO NOT coat sealing compound on the upper oil pan bolt holes and bolt threads.

  8. Apply sealing compound on the sealant line (1) including circular dispensing on 4 holes (2).
  9. Apply spot dispensing at 2 areas (3).
  10. There must be a seal line which extends 26 mm (1.02 in) from the last hole (4).

  12. Fill sealant compound at 2 areas (1) between front cover and bed plate if the space is empty.

    Note: The alignment pins will help maintaining position while installing the bolts.

  14. To aid in upper oil pan alignment, install 2 EN-50435 guide pins (1) on the bed plate.

  16. Install the upper oil sump (1).
  17. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  18. Install the oil pan retaining bolts and handtighten.
  19. Remove the EN-50435 guide pins .
  20. Install 14 upper sump retaining bolts (2, 3) and tighten evenly to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  22. For manual transmission, install the 3 oil pan to transmission bolts (1) and tighten to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).

  24. For automatic transmission, install the 2 oil pan to transmission bolts (1) and tighten to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).

  26. Connect the engine oil level indicator wiring harness plug (1) to the engine oil level indicator (2).
  27. Install the front wheel drive intermediate shaft bracket. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Bracket Replacement .
  28. Install the exhaust front pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → LDE, LLU, LXT, LXV, L2W, 2H0, LFH .
  29. Install the lower sump. Refer to Lower Sump Replacement .
  30. Install the front compartment insulator. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement .
  31. Lower the vehicle.
  32. Install the oil level indicator .
  33. Fill the engine with engine oil. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
