Water Pump Replacement — 2.0L Diesel LNP

Removal procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection : without Start/Stop System .
  3. Remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement .
  4. Remove the air filter outlet front and rear duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement .
  5. Remove the engine compartment insulator. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement .
  6. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  7. Remove the air conditioning compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement : 2.4L LAF → LNP → 1.6L LDE and 1.8L 2H0 .
  8. Remove the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → 1.6L LDE and 1.8L 2H0 .
  9. Remove the exhaust particulate filter. Refer to Exhaust Particulate Filter Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP .

  11. Remove the 2 charge air cooler inlet hose nuts (1).
  12. Remove the charge air cooler inlet hose (3) from the turbocharger and remove the gasket (2).
  13. Hang the charge air cooler inlet hose (3) aside.
  14. Remove the radiator outlet hose. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement : 1.8L 2H0 → 2.0L Diesel LNP → LAF .

  16. Remove the 2 thermostat housing bolts (4).
  17. Remove the thermostat housing (3).
  18. Remove the thermostat (2).
  19. Remove the thermostat seal ring (1).

  21. Remove the water pump inlet hose clip (1) and the water pump inlet hose (2).
  22. Remove the thermostat bypass hose clip (6) and the thermostat bypass hose (3).
  23. Remove the engine coolant inlet hose clip (5) and the engine coolant inlet hose (4).
  24. Remove the water pump pulley. Refer to Water Pump Pulley Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → LDE, LXV, 2H0, LUW and LFH .

  26. Remove the 4 water pump bolts (3).
  27. Remove the water pump (1).
  28. Remove the water pump gasket (2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the sealing surfaces.

  3. Install the water pump (1) with a NEW water pump gasket (2).
  4. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Install the 4 water pump bolts (3) and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
  6. Install the water pump pulley. Refer to Water Pump Pulley Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → LDE, LXV, 2H0, LUW and LFH .

  8. Install the engine coolant inlet hose (4) with the engine coolant inlet hose clip (5).
  9. Install the thermostat bypass hose (3) with the thermostat bypass hose clip (6).
  10. Install the water pump inlet hose (2) with the water pump inlet hose clip (1).

  12. Install the thermostat (2) with a NEW thermostat seal ring (1).
  13. Install the thermostat housing (3).
  14. Install the 2 thermostat housing bolts (4) and tighten to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  16. Install the charge air cooler inlet hose (3) with a NEW gasket (2) to the turbocharger.
  17. Install the 2 charge air cooler inlet hose nuts (1) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
  18. Install the exhaust particulate filter. Refer to Exhaust Particulate Filter Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP .
  19. Install the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement : 2.0L Diesel LNP → 1.6L LDE and 1.8L 2H0 .
  20. Install the air conditioning compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement : 2.4L LAF → LNP → 1.6L LDE and 1.8L 2H0 .
  21. Install the engine compartment insulator. Refer to Front Compartment Insulator Replacement .
  22. Lower the vehicle.
  23. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  24. Install the air filter outlet front and rear duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement .
  25. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement .
  26. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection : without Start/Stop System .
  27. Recharge the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
