1. Stability Control Switch Inoperative

Circuit/System Description

The instrument cluster illuminates the traction control/stability control active indicator, winter indicator and stability control off indicator for 5 s after ignition ON. The electronic brake control module (EBCM) will request the instrument cluster via serial data to turn the traction control/stability control active indicator ON (flashing) when the system is in traction control or stability control mode. When the EBCM detects a fault it sends a serial data message to the instrument cluster commanding the traction control/stability control active indicator ON.

The body control module (BCM) monitors the stability control switch. When the stability control switch is pressed once, the BCM will request the EBCM via serial data to disable the traction control. When the stability control switch is pressed for 5 s, the BCM will request the EBCM to disable the stability control. The EBCM will request the instrument cluster via serial data to turn the winter indicator and stability control off indicator ON to notify the driver of the deactivation.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON.
  2. Verify the instrument cluster Traction Control indicator turns ON and OFF when commanding the Instrument Cluster All Indicators ON and OFF with a scan tool.
  3. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  4. If either indicator does not turn ON and OFF

    Replace the P16 Instrument Cluster.

  5. [/ARW-LISTFAIL][ARW-LISTPASS]
  6. If the indicators turn ON and OFF

  7. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  8. Observe the scan tool BCM Traction Control Switch parameter while pressing and releasing the traction control switch. Verify the reading changes between Active and Inactive.
  9. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  10. If the parameter does not change

    Refer to Circuit/System Testing.

  11. [/ARW-LISTFAIL][ARW-LISTPASS]
  12. If the parameter changes as commanded

  13. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  14. All OK.

Circuit/System Testing

Note: Circuit/System Verification must be performed before Circuit/System Testing.

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S75 Traction Control Switch.
  2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 4 and ground.
  3. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  4. If 5 Ω or greater

Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

  5. [/ARW-LISTFAIL][ARW-LISTPASS]
  6. If less than 5 Ω

  7. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  8. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool BCM Traction Control Switch parameter is Inactive.
  9. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  10. If not Inactive

  11. [/ARW-LISTFAIL]
3.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K9 BCM.
3.2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 2 at the S75 Traction Control Switch and earth.
    [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  12. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.

  13. If infinite resistance, replace the K9 Body Control Module.

  14. [/ARW-LISTFAIL] [ARW-LISTPASS]
  15. If Inactive

  16. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  17. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 2 and ground.
  18. Verify the scan tool BCM Traction Control Switch parameter is Active.
  19. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  20. If not Active

  21. [/ARW-LISTFAIL]
5.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K9 BCM.
5.2. Ignition ON, test for less than 0.3 V between the signal circuit and ground.
    [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  22. If greater than 0.3 V, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

  23. [/ARW-LISTFAIL][ARW-LISTPASS]
  24. If less than 0.3 V

  25. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
5.3. Ignition OFF, test for less than 2 Ω in the signal circuit end to end.
    [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  26. If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

  27. If less than 2 Ω, replace the K9 Body Control Module.

  28. [/ARW-LISTFAIL] [ARW-LISTPASS]
  29. If Active

  30. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  31. Test or replace the S75 Traction Control Switch.

Component Testing

Static Test

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S75 Traction Control Switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 2 and the ground circuit terminal 4 with the switch in the released position.
  3. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  4. If less than infinite resistance

Replace the S75 Traction Control Switch.

  5. [/ARW-LISTFAIL][ARW-LISTPASS]
  6. If infinite resistance

  7. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  8. Test for less than 5 Ω between the signal circuit terminal 2 and the ground circuit terminal 4 with the switch in the pressed position.
  9. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  10. If greater than 5 Ω

Replace the S75 Traction Control Switch.

  11. [/ARW-LISTFAIL][ARW-LISTPASS]
  12. If less than 5 Ω

  13. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  14. All OK.
