The body control module (BCM) applies battery positive voltage to the lift glass/trunk motor release control circuit, which energizes the coil side of the liftgate release relay. The switch side of the liftgate release relay then closes, supplying battery positive voltage through the relay and the relay controlled output circuit to the liftgate latch. The liftgate latch then releases the liftgate so that it may be manually opened.
When the liftgate release relay is actively being requested by the BCM.
The BCM detects a short to voltage on the liftgate release relay control circuit.
The BCM detects a short to ground on the liftgate release relay control circuit.
The BCM detects an open/high resistance on the liftgate release relay control circuit or an open/high resistance on the relay ground circuit.
The tailgate latch will malfunction.
• | This DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present. |
• | When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC. |
• | A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles. |
Rear Hatch/Gate Description and Operation
Control Module References for scan tool information
Ignition ON, command the M30 liftgate latch to UNLATCH with a scan tool. The M30 liftgate latch should release the liftgate.
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. |
⇒ | If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 BCM. |
⇒ | If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 BCM. |
⇒ | If not within the specified range, replace the KR95A liftgate release relay. |
