1. Door Handle Switch Malfunction

2. Door Unlatch Malfunction

Circuit/System Description

The system is designed so that when the operator approaches a locked vehicle with the keyless entry transmitter, the keyless entry control module will detect the keyless entry transmitter and when an exterior door handle is pulled the keyless entry control module will command all doors to unlock and the door to unlatch allowing the door to be pulled open.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool keyless entry control module Exterior Driver Door Handle Switch, Exterior Passenger Door Handle Switch, Exterior Left Rear Door Handle Switch and Exterior Right Rear Door Handle Switch parameters while pulling and releasing each exterior door handle. The parameter for each should change between Active and Inactive.
  2. If a value for an exterior door handle is always Active or Inactive, refer to Exterior Door Handle Malfunction.
  3. Ignition OFF, with the doors closed and locked, approach the vehicle with the keyless entry transmitter and pull the exterior driver door handle. The driver door should unlock and unlatch allowing the driver door to be pulled open.
  4. If the driver door does not perform as specified, refer to Driver Door Latch Malfunction.
  5. With the doors closed and locked, approach the vehicle with the keyless entry transmitter and pull the exterior passenger door handle or the exterior left rear door handle or the exterior right rear door handle. The appropriate door should unlock and unlatch allowing the door to be pulled open.
  6. If all the doors do not perform as specified, refer to Passenger and Rear Door Release Command Inoperative.
If a single door does not perform as specified, refer to Passenger or Rear Door Latch Malfunction.
  7. Observe the scan tool Exterior Driver Door Handle Touch Sensor parameter while pressing and releasing the B210D door handle touch sensor-driver exterior. The value should change between Active and Inactive as the sensor is pressed and released.
  8. If the value does not change, refer to Door Handle Lock Sensor Malfunction.
  9. Observe the scan tool Exterior Passenger Door Handle Touch Sensor parameter while pressing and releasing the B210P door handle touch sensor-passenger exterior. The value should change between Active and Inactive as the sensor is pressed and released.
  10. If the value does not change, refer to Door Handle Lock Sensor Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

Exterior Door Handle Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate exterior B27 door handle switch.
  2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the appropriate scan tool Exterior Door Handle Switch parameter is Inactive.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal 2 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.
  6. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 2 and the ground circuit terminal 1. Verify the scan tool Exterior Door Handle Switch parameter is Active.
  7. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module
  8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the B27 door handle switch.

Driver Door Latch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X7 harness connector at the K9 BCM.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the signal circuit terminal 5 and B+.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the signal circuit tor a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.
  4. Connect the X7 harness connector at the K9 BCM and disconnect the X4 harness connector at the K84 keyless entry control module.
  5. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 3 and ground.
  6. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 BCM.
  7. Connect the X4 harness connector at the K84 keyless entry control module and disconnect the harness connector at the A23D door latch assembly - driver.
  8. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 5 and control circuit terminal 10.
  9. Ignition ON, pull and release the exterior driver door handle. The test lamp should briefly illuminate when pulling the exterior driver door handle.
  10. If the test lamp is always ON, test either control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.
If the test lamp is always OFF, test either control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.
  11. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the A23D door latch assembly - driver.

Passenger or Rear Door Latch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X7 harness connector at the K9 BCM.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the signal circuit terminal 17 and ground.
  5. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 14 and ground.
  6. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 BCM.
  7. Connect the X4 harness connector at the K84 keyless entry control module and disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate exterior A23 door latch assembly.
  8. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 5 and control circuit terminal 10.
  9. Ignition ON, pull and release the exterior door handle. The test lamp should briefly illuminate when pulling the exterior door handle.
  10. If the test lamp is always ON, test either control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.
If the test lamp does not illuminate, test either control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K84 keyless entry control module.
  11. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the exterior A23 door latch assembly.

Door Handle Lock Sensor Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate T10 keyless entry aerial-door handle.
  2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 4 and ground.

Component Testing

Exterior Door Handle Switch Test

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate B27 door handle switch.
  2. With the switch in the open position, test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal 2 and the ground terminal 1.
