Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) applies B+ to the bonnet ajar signal circuit and monitors the voltage to determine the position of the bonnet. When the bonnet is closed, the switch is open and voltage remains high. When the bonnet is open, the switch is closed and the voltage is pulled low.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition ON.
  2. Observe the scan tool Bonnet Ajar Switch parameter. With the bonnet open, the Bonnet Ajar Switch parameter should be Open. With the bonnet closed, the Bonnet Ajar Switch parameter should be Closed.
  3. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  4. If the parameter does not change

    Refer to Circuit/System Testing.

  5. [/ARW-LISTFAIL][ARW-LISTPASS]
  6. If the parameter changes

  7. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  8. All OK.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B55 bonnet ajar switch. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
  2. Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal C and ground.
  3. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  4. If 10 Ω or greater

  5. [/ARW-LISTFAIL]
    2.1. Ignition OFF
2.2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the ground circuit end to end.
    [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  6. If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

  7. If less than 2 Ω, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.

  8. [/ARW-LISTFAIL] [ARW-LISTPASS]
  9. If less than 10 Ω

  10. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  11. Ignition ON.
  12. Verify the scan tool Hood Ajar Switch parameter is Closed.
  13. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  14. If not Closed

  15. [/ARW-LISTFAIL]
4.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K9 BCM.
4.2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal B and ground.
    [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  16. If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.

  17. If infinite resistance, replace the K9 BCM.

  18. [/ARW-LISTFAIL] [ARW-LISTPASS]
  19. If Closed

  20. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  21. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal B and the ground circuit terminal C.
  22. Verify the scan tool Hood Ajar Switch parameter is Open.
  23. [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  24. If not Open

  25. [/ARW-LISTFAIL]
6.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K9 BCM, ignition ON.
6.2. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit terminal B and ground.
    [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  26. If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.

  27. [/ARW-LISTFAIL][ARW-LISTPASS]
  28. If less than 1 V

  29. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
6.3. Test for less than 2 Ω in the signal circuit end to end.
    [ARW-LISTFAIL]
  30. If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.

  31. If less than 2 Ω, replace the K9 BCM.

  32. [/ARW-LISTFAIL] [ARW-LISTPASS]
  33. If Open

  34. [/ARW-LISTPASS]
  35. Test or replace the B55 bonnet ajar switch.
