Battery Positive and Negative Cable Replacement — 2.4L LAF

1. Remove the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection : without Start/Stop System .



2. Unlock the retaining tabs on the battery fuse box cover and open the cover (1).
3. Remove the battery positive to starter cable nut (2).
4. Remove the battery positive to starter cable (3) from the battery.



5. Remove the negative cable nut (1).
6. Remove the negative cable (2).
7. Unclip the starter and generator positive cable from the engine wiring harness and from the oil level indicator tube.
8. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .



9. Remove the starter and alternator positive cable nut (2) and the starter and alternator positive cable (3).
10. Remove the starter bolt (5) and the starter ground cable (4).



11. Fold the alternator cap (2) aside.
12. Remove the starter and generator positive cable retaining nut (3) and the starter and generator positive cable (4).
13. Remove the starter and generator positive cable from the vehicle.

1. Install the starter and generator positive cable to the vehicle.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




2. Install the generator positive cable (4) and the generator positive cable retaining nut (3) and tighten to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
3. Fold the alternator cap (2) to the alternator positive cable terminal.



4. Install the starter ground cable (4) and the starter bolt (5) and tighten to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).
5. Install the starter and generator positive cable (3) and the starter and generator positive cable nut (2) and tighten to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Clip in the starter and generator positive cable to the engine wiring harness and to the oil level indicator tube.



8. Install the negative cable (2).
9. Install the negative cable nut (1) and tighten to 9 N·m (80 lb in).



10. Install the battery positive to starter cable (3) to the battery.
11. Install and tighten the battery positive to starter cable nut (2).
12. Close the cover (1) and lock the retaining tabs on the battery fuse box cover.
13. Install the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection : without Start/Stop System .
