Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement

Warning: Refer to Exhaust Service Warning in the Preface section.

Warning: Refer to Protective Goggles and Glove Warning in the Preface section.

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Flexible Pipe Bending Caution in the Preface section.

1. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement : 2.4L LAF → 2.0L Diesel LNP → LDE, LXV, 2H0, LUW and LFH .



2. Remove the 3 three way catalytic converter nuts (1).
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
4. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement : LDE, LXV, 2H0, LUW and LFH .



5. Remove the 2 three way catalytic converter nuts (3).
6. Remove the three way catalytic converter (4) and the gasket (5).

1. Loosen the 2 three way catalytic converter brace bracket bolts (2).
2. Install the three way catalytic converter (4) and a NEW gasket (5).
3. Install the 2 three way catalytic converter brace bracket bolts (2) and loosely tighten.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

4. Install the 3 three way catalytic converter nuts (1) and tighten to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
5. Tighten the 2 three way catalytic converter brace bracket bolts (2) to 58 N·m (43 lb ft).
6. Tighten the 2 three way catalytic converter nuts (3) to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
7. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement : LDE, LXV, 2H0, LUW and LFH .
8. Lower the vehicle.
9. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement : 2.4L LAF → 2.0L Diesel LNP → LDE, LXV, 2H0, LUW and LFH .
