Check Connecting Rod Bearing Clearance (with Plasti(gauge))

    1936797

Note: Do not rotate the crankshaft.

  1. Lay on a suitable plasti(gauge) (flexible plastic thread) over the entire width of the connecting rod bearing journal.
  2. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the connecting big end bearing cap.
  4. Tighten the 2 bolts in three steps:
  5. 3.1. In first pass tighten to 25 N·m (19 lb ft)
3.2. In second pass tighten to 90 degrees using the EN-45059 angle sensor
  6. Remove the con-rod bearing cap bolts.
  7. Remove the connecting big end bearing cap.

  8. 2026856

Note: When reading the value, do not confuse millimetres and inches on the measuring scale.

  9. Measure the con-rod bearing play.
  10. • Compare the width of the flattened plastic thread with the measuring scale.
    • Permissible big end bearing play: 0.09-0.32 mm (0.004-0.014 lb in).

Check Big end bearing Clearance (With Micrometer Gauge Internal Measuring Device)

    2028125
  1. Measure the big end bearing diameters at 3 points A, B and C with the internal measuring device.
  2. Work out the average connecting rod diameter.
  3. Formula: A + B + C /3.

    2026852
  4. Measure at points I and II with the micrometre gauge (1).

  5. 2028126
  6. Measure the connecting big end bearing journal diameter at 2 points.
  7. Formula: I + II/2.

  8. Work out the average connecting big end bearing journal diameter.
  9. Determine the connecting big end bearing play.
  10. Calculation formula: average big end bearing diameter -- average big end bearing journal diameter.

  11. Perform the target/actual comparison.
  12. Permissible big end bearing play: 0.09-0.32 mm (0.004-0.014 lb in).
